We recently visited Algarve to congratulate the surf camp managers, Sarah and Aldo Sprong to this great achievement. We asked them what they thought was the main reasons for this success.

How do you manage to score so high on wave quality?
Aldo: We have some amazing surfing conditions here year round with three great beach breaks within 15 min drive. If the swell is big we usually go to Arrifana beach which is protected towards the north and can produce some clean beginner friendly waves when the rest of the coast is messy. If the swell is small on the other hand we can go to Monte Clerigo or Amoreira which are very exposed towards the Atlantic and always receive some swell.

What do you think is the reason you score so high on surf coaching?
Aldo: Our surf lessons are all about having fun, yet at the same time we are fully dedicated to push our guest to make them progress in their learning. We always do a profound warm up and theory before entering the water and aim to join the students in the water (with flippers) to help them catch unbroken waves when they are ready. We do 1.5 before lunch and 1.5 after lunch, this has proven to be a suitable for most guest to maximize the learning.

And how about your good ratings concerning staff and accommodations?
Sarah: We want everybody to feel that our surf camp is a “home away from home”. We want our guest to be comfortable with relaxing in the coach, making some coffee, using the stereo or playing with our dog and daughter. Since we live together with the guests they become part of our extended family, and we treat each other as such

Surf camp Algarve is open for bookings from 1st of Mars. The surf camp only caters for 8 guests at the same time so don’t hesitate to make your booking as soon as possible
